Summer Solstice

Summertime!!! In conjunction with the Summer Solstice we transition into Cancer season (yay, that’s my sign!!) and the dog days of summer are just around the corner. The summer solstice occurs when the Sun reaches its highest and northernmost point in the sky, this year that happens to fall on June 20, 2021. This marks the astronomical beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere as the earth arrives at the place in her orbit where the North Pole is at its maximum tilt (which means winter for our Southern Hemisphere peeps).

Here in Ventura County, California, we will be enjoying approximately 14 hours and 26 minutes of sunlight based on the Farmer’s Almanac Sunrise and Sunset calculator (go ahead and try it for your location).

Common festival themes at this time may include that of abundance, sun celebrations, and the divine masculine. The warm weather calls us to have plenty of time outside, with abundant sunshine and fresh air!

The seeds that were sown during the Spring season are growing after some challenges! Starting things from seedlings is not easy!! I have managed to nurture some Clary Sage, Calendula, Valerian, Burdock, Yarrow, Sweet Grass and a few Jojoba from seed. None of my white sage seeds ever sprouted, I did acquire 3 plants which are doing quite well, still in pots. I will likely keep these all in pots until fall due to the drought conditions and expected heat in the coming days.

The surprise summer crystals I have selected for the summer scrub are:

  • Clear Quartz – helps to amplify the energy of summer and bring things back into balance
  • Honey Citrine – full of solar energy and draws prosperity, assists in creating wealth over time
  • Tiger’s Eye – ruled by the sun, full of confidence-boosting energy, helps you own your personal power
  • Yellow Jasper – ideal stone for the Solar Plexus chakra and helps with clarity, enthusiasm, and optimism
