The Process
The phrase “trust the process” is mainstream now (as evidenced by 8,962,841 posts on Instagram with that hashtag) and is one of our household mantras. When I sat down to write this post about the process of how I go about making crystal/stone bracelets, I became very curious about the origin of that expression.
Alan Watts was the first person that came to mind, but his inspirational catchphrase was “Trust in the Universe.” which thank you for that Mr. Watts as that has been uttered countless times as well. Thich Nhat Hanh was another possibility. That search came up with other drops of wisdom, but not those actual words. When I typed in the expression sans potential authors, I hit the “bingo”. I had no idea that its modern roots lie in the sports world!
I have been inspired, intrigued and entertained by sports all of my life, I grabbed on to Alice and down the rabbit hole we went. Turns out that it originated with the Philadelphia 76ers GM Sam Hinkle, and since it’s March and we are in the midst of basketball heaven, it made writing this post all that more motivating.
I found a detailed account here on the Bleacher Report, The Detailed History of ‘Trust the Process‘, a very well researched piece that contained many references as to how this evolved. The article is laced with nostalgia and reminded me that Joel Embiid had nicknamed himself “The Process” during that era of the Sixers. I never added those two things together. Maybe I was mad when they let Jrue Holiday go (the youngest NBA All-Star at the time) and perhaps that shaded my observations.
Another fact that fascinated me was how “trust” and “process” came together. The marriage that evolved between these words is as emotionally reassuring as the scene in the final episode of Ted Lasso, where each Richmond player reveals they took a piece of the “Believe” sign and why. And there it is.
So what’s my process? I thought I would give you a behind the scenes glimpse into what goes into making an astrology or any one of my healing bracelets.
The Star Players – The Rocks (Trust)
I seek out the best gemstones from people/vendors that I have relationships with and I feel I can trust. I don’t buy my stones/beads from Amazon or EBay or Etsy (unless I have had personal referrals or interactions with the seller directly).
98% of my current inventory is natural and untreated and I’m working on making that 100% Since completing my Stone Medicine training I know the value of having a stone that is not dyed or heat treated. I also know the origins of most of the stones/beads that I have in my possession.
The Stretchy Cord (Process)
Strongest I can use for the size drill I’m dealing with. On average I am getting 2+ years out of the bracelets that I wear daily. You can extend the life by rolling the bracelet gently and not stretching to pull over your hand. If they do happen to break, please contact me so we can put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
The Knot (Trust+Process)
Always a double tie with glue and discretely placed under a bead or spacer. They do sometimes work their way out after longer wear, but generally it’s a mystery what holds the pieces together.
Made with Love (Believe)
Each bracelet (or stone if you are buying a crystal set) is created with positivity and intention. They get cleared, charged up and activated before they are in your hands.
Thank you for reading this post. Thank you to Sam Hinkle for the words, I’m following you on X for more inspiration. Hit me up if you want to throw me some capital.
Cosmically yours,
Kim
P.S. I read that the Sixers are trying to recruit Jrue Holiday away from the Celtics since he is a free agent. Life is so interesting. Back to the Madness.
